We are AlphaSpectrum, an East-London based-company responsible for the creation of StockID- a high quality services and asset tracking system specializing in tracking and traceability.
Alpha-Spectrum was developed in East London’s Cortex Hub accelerator. The founders all have IT backgrounds but alongside that, we all have farming parents as common backgrounds meaning our families were heavily reliant on agriculture to ensure we had roofs over our heads, food to eat and obtained the necessary education. With this having sculpted the people we are today, the natural next step has been to bring the various evolutions technology is introducing to the world to one of the oldest professions in the world, farming, and we did this through the creation of StockID.
About the Product:
Keeping track of the various stocks one has is an important part of farming as it helps you accurately predict the level of production for that season. Unfortunately stock-theft is serious and relevant concern for most farmers in the rural areas, which is a deterrent in accurately forecasting earnings. South Africa, and many countries within the emerging markets are characterized by huge levels of inequality so theft, generally, is a symptom of this, which causes huge problems for farmers, farming to sustain their families.
As smart-phone usage growth in Africa is one of the fastest in the world, we have created a product farmers can use to track the where-abouts of their stock utilizing smart-phones. Not only will farmers be able to know the exact location of their stock at any given time, but they will also be able to install a virtual fence around property, enabling the farmers’ phone to notify them when stock wanders off to forbidden territory.
Progress in Product Development
We have developed the first prototype. We have held various focus groups on the need for such a product amongst farmers based in the Eastern Cape region. We are aiming to move forward with production and would like to partner with investors who would be able to assist with funding in order to build more of the hardware pieces and to invest in an aggressive marketing strategy.
